Abstract

Drought is one of the problems of today's society and reduces the yield of plants, including tea. A randomized complete block design with 14 tea clones and two replications in two separate designs (drought stress and normal conditions) was done to identify tolerant drought tea clones in year 2017 at Fashalem station, Rasht Iran. The tea leaf yield of clones was measured in both conditions to calculate different indices of drought tolerance. The correlation of GMP, MP, STI and HM indices with normal and drought leaf yield was significantly positive and so were recognized as the best indices for screening tolerant genotypes. Based on cluster analysis as well as biplot results, the tea clones were grouped into three sensitive, semi-sensitive and tolerant groups. Clones 100, 399 and Bazri were identified as tolerant clones. It is also suggested based on the results that grouping of genotypes based on stress tolerance indices and using multivariate statistical methods can be a suitable method for separating tolerant groups of plants to use in breeding programs.
