Abstract

The performance of different cultivars of Garlic (Allium sativum L.) was evaluated in a field experiment at Horticulture Research section, Faculty of Agriculture, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, KPK, during 2010-2011 growing season. The trial was set out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 8 treatments and each treatment was replicated three times. The size of plot was kept 9 mfor each treatment. For evaluating the performance, eight garlic cultivar (California late, early red Italian, aglio bianco, JSRO, china, gulabi desi, white desi and kanvari) having diverse genetic makeup were selected. All the studied parameters were found significantly different amongst each other. The data showed that Aglio bianco performed the most dynamic as compared to the other genotypes by producing maximum plant height (62.10 cm), number of leaves plant-1 (9.15), leaf length (53cm), clove weight (4.06 g), number of cloves per bulb (20.32), length of clove (2.97 cm), diameter of clove (1.67 cm), diameter of bulb (5 cm), weight of bulb (108.25 g) and bulb yield (14.43 t ha-1). It is concluded from the present study that Aglio abianco proved the most superior one and is recommended for commercial cultivation under the agro-climatic conditions of Dera Ismail Khan, K.P.K.
